A hen and a hog decide to open a restaurant, aptly named “Ham and Eggs.” Before long, the pig realizes that the hen is only an involved owner, while he – the hog – is the committed owner. Scrum guru Ken Schwaber once offered this great illustration to help folks understand Scrum. The beauty of Scrum is that it helps the committed Scrum team, or the “hogs” to focus on the task at hand, while keeping the involved “hens” or external stakeholders away from the process.
This philosophy and methodology has done wonders for creative development teams around the world. The “Hog and Hen” philosophy, combined with defined Scrum techniques, quickly lead to increased productivity, increased workflow, and much happier work teams.
