In 1986, Ikujiro Nonaka and Hirotaka Takeuchi put forth their ideas for a new, holistic approach to project management. They called it the “new new product development game”, and used a rugby analogy to illustrate their new ideas. This was the birth of what we now know as the Scrum framework.
In the early 1990s, Ken Schwaber and Jeff Sutherland expanded on Nonaka and Takeuchi’s ideas. Through their collaboration, the modern Scrum framework came into being. It was adopted rather quickly by software developers and the tech sphere; however, in recent years, interest in Scrum has started spreading.
Today, we see Scrum being used in organizations from nearly every industry and sphere.
